My daughters just finished 3rd grade. Until now, I have not interfered with their math education. They consistently get poor grades on timed facts, and very good grades in problem-solving. Their teachers insist that we drill facts over the summer.
Not in my home. Here math makes sense. My daughters will understand the relationships between the facts, and the underlying concepts. The only rule of mama math is they have to UNDERSTAND it; if they don't then I'm teaching it wrong.
